Oświęcim State Museum
By John Paul Franczak (C)
Auschwitz is crowded today,
But disabled patrons may apply
For wheelchairs at reception.
Our queue sips mountain water,
Awaiting the punishment block.
Inside is the Adjutant’s office
Framed by its wide open door;
An hour we did not keep
Hangs still on his white clock
As days we did not know
Square up on his lapsed calendar.
A typewriter upon his table
Must have struck down what he said;
Then rung its bell to end a line.
